Why Do Snakes Slither?
Long, long ago, snakes used to have legs, until
the day of the zodiac race.
The snake was in the race and also in the lead
because of his helpful legs. The snake was doing well until he was very close to the finish line. Unfortunately, the snake
was running so fast that his legs fell off and he had to slither for the rest of the race. Then he started to fall behind
very badly. But his slithering still beat the turtle and snail.
When the race was finished, all the animals
went back to the jungle, except the snake. He was afraid to tell and show all the other snakes that he lost his legs and the
race. It was partly because they might tease him for being different from them. After a while’s hesitation, he decided
to go back to his friends because he trusted their friendship.
By the time he returned, the snakes did make
fun of him. He told them that races were not as important as friends. Sometimes they are just for fun. He also told them how
he felt when they teased him and eventually they apologized.
In the end, all of the snakes pulled off their
legs, on purpose, so he wouldn’t feel different anymore. That is why today’s snakes slither.
